“If you see her, it’s too late. If she falls in love with you, only death can free you.” Yeah. Well. How about if you watch her on film and then just want to forget about the experience? Is it too late then? Almost certainly … except for the fact that I can’t remember jack about this film. Better consult my notes.
So Mag Mag is about a really fickle loveghost. The titular spookster picks a guy, falls in love with him, and haunts him until he dies, then gives up on him, which seems like a serious dick move. “Oh, so now that he’s available, you don’t want him anymore?” What a jerk! I’m not half as scared for my life here as I am unimpressed.
And it bugs me that all the men are turned off, too. I mean, law of averages, especially with horny college boys, is that at least one is gonna be into it. No? Are you sure? How about the artist? You know, that one kid who [checks notes] made a naked sculpture of his crush. Geez, thirsty much? I really, really hope this tactic does not work, cuz otherwise you’re gonna see a lot more of it. Naturally, Mag Mag is jealous that dude didn’t make a naked sculpture of her. I think.
This
film is really confusing. The ghost will latch onto a guy and make supernatural shit happen, but most of it is more annoying than unnerving, and, as I said above, how has she not found the guy that’s like, “OK? Let’s go there.” You can’t be looking that hard, female ghost, if you’re only finding guys turned off by supernatural affection.
For a film billed as a dark comedy, it is only funny when unintentionally so, like when the acting or plot is terrible. Oh, and the acting in this film is miserable; I’m thinking even a seasoned director couldn’t have saved it. There were some spots of enjoyment here, but mostly I was stuck on the message – is this metaphor for what happens when you are a commitment-phobe? And is the ghost deliberately trying to be a jerk? I think there was both a funnier and more moving picture available with the same material. Our first-time director simply failed to find it.
